Last but not least...  a little bit about their legends and how they are governed according to their social and political organization.

Social organization

Bribri lack traditional governmental structures; they are organized locally as rural non-domestic communities. However, elders are still highly respected. It is also common for individual community leaders to exert great influence through local communities and projects.

Bribri has prominent national and international positions in Indian movements. Constant change, intentional adoption and adaptation to outside influence are a norm; however, the identity of a native group is preserved and people feel they have a common Indian origin. Bribri and CabΓ©car respect shamans and, in general, elders of both sexes.

Political organization

The government structures are those of the Costa Rican national administration. Each town has a rural police office with one or two officers. The police may be area-specific or assigned. There are district councils and elected persons related to the town municipality, whose concerns are road maintenance, welfare, and coordination with the national government.
